new cloud. episode I: The scalar field crumble
The scalar field crumble is a 20-minute science fiction audio piece. It uses the themes of science and computer technology of the 20th century on earth.
Virtually produced sound intervenes in the audio piece as a narrative entity, while the voice of the main character alternates between narration, formal self-instrumentation and singing. Musical grains become quanta, or the means of transport for a non-linear journey through time. The scalar field crumble suggests an alternative structure of thought that defies ideological dictates of logic.
The audio piece was conceived for a subway journey in Berlin between August and October 2021. During this period, the station „Birkenstrasse“ is under reconstruction: luminous lines and numbering mark each crack in the walls of the tunnel. The narration of the audio piece takes up a connection to these cracks. Thus, the otherwise auditory expanded into an interactive, audiovisual, audio piece.
